Coronary Angiography is a test that uses a contrast dye and X-Rays to examine the flow of blood through your heart’s arteries. It determines how much narrowing is there in your arteries. Coronary Angiography: Procedure

Before the coronary angiography test, doctors usually get an MRI or a CT scan to try to diagnose heart abnormalities. The patient is given a small sedative to help them relax before the test begins.

The test begins by cleaning a portion of the body that is to be used as the site for the procedure and numbing it with a local anesthetic. The cardiologist inserts a catheter into an artery and carefully slides it up into the heart. The doctor uses X-ray images to help place the catheter.

The dye is put into the catheter once it is in position. X-ray photographs are taken to see how the dye flows through the artery. The dye helps to highlight any blood flow obstructions.

An X-ray of the heart’s arteries is called a coronary angiogram. This helps in figuring out how well the heart is operating by displaying the amount and severity of any cardiac problems. The treatment usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes.
