Wedding Attire of Haryana

Wedding are major celebration in Haryana culture. This event is meant to celebrate happiness and prosperity of the families. Women mostly prefer to wear bright coloured sarees but some prefer to wear salwaar – Kameez or ghagra with odhni with some embroidery on them.

The Haryanvi traditional marriages are marked with vibrancy and colourful wedding dresses. Simplicity and enthusiasm is reflected in their clothing and accessories.

The traditional Haryanvi bridal wedding wear has seen a few distinct advancements and upgrades over last few years. Usually, bridal wear Thel or long shirt with ankle length skirt known as ghagri and the odhni to cover the head. These are adorned with embroidered design and bright colours at the time of wedding.

Bridegroom prefers to wear Sherwani, dhoti or kurta Pyjama which come in different colour, design and style. The turban with Kalgi or brooch is a favourite choice as a headgear. Tilla jutti is the famous art form of Haryana which is included in the wedding attire of groom.

 

Jewellery

Women of Haryana prefer to wear small sized earrings made of gold or silver along with a necklace. Jaat community women wore kathla on auspicious day. Women of Bania usually wore Malas. It is a long neck piece made up of gold with different style, pattern and designs with huge pendant in the center. People of Haryana wear costly jewellery on important days or on some occasion. Aged women prefer to wear hansil ornaments which are unique in style.
